Carol MacBain

Director, Reiach and Hall

Carol MacBain trained at Edinburgh College of Art, qualifying 1992, and joined Reiach and Hall as an architect in 2000. She became a director in 2007. She is a member of the practices design review group, responsible for setting and maintaining design standards across all of the offices work.

Carol is active across the whole range of the practice’s work and has played a key leadership role in a number of housing, educational and refurbishment projects.   She has most recently specialised in residential projects and has considerable expertise in housing design, with many of the projects she has been involved in winning awards, including Succoth Avenue and Upper Strand housing development for Places for People in Edinburgh.  Interior fit-out projects include, The St Andrews Medical Sciences Building, the City of Glasgow College Riverside Campus, VinCaffe, Edinburgh College of Art’s Evolution House and offices for Lindsays Solicitors.  Carol is currently working on a further phase of the Upper Strand project in Granton, delivering for-sale and mid-market rent apartments. This project adopts modern methods of construction and includes standard flat types for manufacture off-site factory.

Carol was awarded an RIAS Fellowship, along with fellow Reiach and Hall directors in 2012. She is an Academician in the Academy of Urbanism and currently sits on the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards judging panel.
